My wife will be getting her hard cast put on next week. She wants me to choose the color and I really have not decided. What I do know is that I will post some pictures of it when she gets it.

I've been having a similar sounding pain just below my left knee for quite some time now. Comes and goes, sometimes worse than others. Has anyone ever heard of getting a llc for a stress fracture. I think it would be a great excuse, pending the pain and what not I have been having, for a full term llc.
Any thoughts? |

It's even rare these days to be put in a CAM for a stress fracture of the foot.
15 years ago, a short leg walking cast with toeplate was quite common. There's an article online, I can't seem to find it right now, that deals with a few case studies of people with stress fractures of the foot. It was published in the mid-late 90's, and I recall one study discusses the patient being an active 30's something woman, and in substance it says that the patient should be given a joice between a stiff soled shoe and order to remain off the foot, or if the patient is active, like the 30's woman in the case study, a fiberglass short leg walking cast with toeplate should be used, mitigating the need for crutches and allowing the patient to remain active. That was then, and I don't think those orthopedic studies are valid any longer. The shape of orthopedics has signficantly changed in the last decade and a half. The open toed stiff soled medical shoe is the favored treatemnt these days. I recall seeing people in short leg toeplated walking casts back then, and I know they were being treated for stress fractures of the foot because they had told me. I recall that in the past, stress fractures of the metatarsals was considered a "difficult" injury to treat and often required seemingly extensive time in the leg cast. If I can find the article, i'll edit my post and add the link to it. |
